U.S. Department of Homeland Security Features JCSU’s College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Dr-Magdy-AttiaIt should come as no surprise that Johnson C. Smith University, recognized by HBCU Digest as having the “Best STEM Program” among HBCUs in 2014, would now be at the forefront of training minority students for careers in homeland security.

Spearheaded by Dr. Magdy Attia, dean of the College of STEM, JCSU has developed one of the nation’s leading computer science programs among minority-serving institutions. Thanks to an initial grant from the Department of Homeland Security, our students are being exposed to exciting careers in areas like cyber security, emergency management technology and analytics. Top companies including Wells Fargo, Microsoft and IBM offer internships, and many other students choose to continue their education in some of the nation’s best graduate computer science programs.

JCSU has become an integral part of the pipeline, nurturing highly talented and motivated young professionals for STEM careers. Now they are poised to change our world.
