The CIAA Tournament has begun!

The CIAA Tournament has begun! The tournament provides an opportunity for Johnson C. Smith University to showcase our talented students and staff in the media as the city coalesces to show support for the hometown Golden Bulls.

 

Coach Stephen Joyner Jr. ’01 stopped by WBTV on Friday, Feb. 19 to give a preview of the CIAA Tournament, talk about the women’s basketball team’s tournament preparation and talk about his father reaching the career milestone of 500 wins this season.

Coach Mark Sherrill ’92 visited WBTV on Monday, Feb. 22 to talk about his upcoming induction into the CIAA Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a student-athlete when he was a star forward for the Golden Bulls from 1988-1992. The clip includes a recap of his numerous records and honors as well as a fun story about kangaroos when he was playing professional basketball in Australia.

Mr. Otis Stroud ’81 went to WBTV on Tuesday, Feb. 23 to provide his insight on tournament action over the years as a game announcer. Stroud, who is known as the Voice of the Golden Bulls, has been announcing JCSU football and basketball games for nearly 40 years and he has announced CIAA Tournament games for more than 20 years. He also talks about how he got his start as a game announcer when he was a student at JCSU.
